Our Community, Our Tribe, Our Support

FNS Support

Last week I was working with one of our athletes who was struggling on the bench press.  He had the look in his eyes after touching the bar to his chest that there was no way he was going to be able to push the weight back up.  I stood over him, coaching him to stay engaged and to commit to the finish. I could see that doubt and fear in his eyes.  I then placed my hands just under the bar, and with ease he locked out the rep.  What was it that changed? I didn’t even touch the weight.  What changed was that he could release the fear of failing and the weight falling on his chest.  With my hands there, he felt SUPPORT.  He could focus on the task at hand without any fear of failure, and that was when he succeeded.

You can apply this same principle to pretty much anything.  Too many times individuals are afraid to do something because of the fear of failing and, like the weight, being crushed.  When we second guess ourselves whether or not we can finish that is where support comes in.  He knew I was there for him and would not let anything happen to him, however, I knew that he had it in him to push through on his own.  We both worked together to help him achieve the task at hand, that one rep.

That one rep can be anything, that one pound, one mile, one day back to the gym, one less beer or cookie.  But if you surround yourself with enablers then that ONE of anything becomes much less attainable.  You decide your support group, your company, and community.

Our strength lies in our community.  Our community is more than a team, a group, or network of members, rather it is a close knit TRIBE who share the same common culture of supporting one another and striving to get better everyday.  Whether it be our group training classes, our buddy training, or events, our athletes provide an environment for one another that allows each other to push themselves beyond their limits, with the support of not letting one another fail.

I am firm believer that you are the company that you keep.  Too many times we can be surrounded by jaded individuals who want to do nothing more than complain and make excuses.  That’s not what we do, and that’s not who we are.  When it comes to excuses, complaints, negativity, and ego’s you can check all that at the door. Our FNS TRIBE wants no part of that and will not stand for it.  That is what makes this community so strong.  We understand the struggles we all face on a daily basis, and we overcome them.  We also know the joys that come with group support and training hard, and we embrace that.  Our tribe is more than bunch of individuals who condition and train at a high level and push each other past limits we thought were impossible. Concurrently, we are a culture and community that will go to great lengths to protect and care for each member of our Tribe.

When one athlete is out or goes down, there you will see the next one lending a hand for them to get back in.  From our Tough Mudder training and events, to races, to our countless amount of classes, the one common theme you will see is our dedication to make each other better and our camaraderie.    I have never been more proud or honored to be surrounded by not just some of the most amazing athletes I have even seen, but more important to be around some of the most amazing people I know.

If you want to make big changes in your life, surround yourself with those who have made those changes or who are on the same journey as you are.  Continue to constantly play up a level as it is far better to surround yourself with those more skilled than you as they will push you go deeper to be your best.
